Health experts have expressed concern over the increase in stroke rates

Health experts have expressed deep concern over the increasing prevalence of stroke in low- and middle-income countries, including Pakistan, saying that stroke is the leading cause of chronic disability and human death worldwide.

About 6 million deaths worldwide are due to stroke, while blood pressure and smoking are the main causes of the spread of this disease, stroke can be controlled by promoting a healthy lifestyle and awareness about the disease.

He said this during a seminar on 'Improving palliative care in low and middle-income countries on Monday evening.

The seminar was organized at LEJ National Science Information Center, the University of Karachi with the mutual support of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, and Comstech Islamabad.

This seminar was attended by Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, Head of ICCBS University of Karachi and Coordinator General of COMSTEC, Professor Dr. Muhammad Wasay of Aga Khan University, Iranian Scholar Dr. Mehdi Farhadi, Professor Dr. Ashfaq Shoaib of University of Alberta, Canada and Rashid Hospital. Dr. Maria Khan from Dubai spoke.


Prof. Iqbal Chaudhry said that the aim of this seminar is to highlight the problem of the prevalence of stroke in low and middle-income countries.

I have initiated programs that will increase the capacity of less developed Muslim countries in science and research in Muslim countries.

According to Dr. Iqbal, work is being done in OIC African countries in related sectors.

Professor Muhammad Wasay said that the spread of stroke in the respective countries is not only related to increasing age but also to civil life, while obesity, lack of exercise, unbalanced diet, diabetes, smoking, and blood pressure are also factors in the spread of this disease.

There are important reasons. Dr. Mehdi Farhadi said the situation of stroke in low and middle-income countries is much worse than in high-income countries.

Professor Ashfaq Shoaib said that stroke is the most significant cause of disability and death in the world, he emphasized the importance of establishing a stroke unit at the national level where adequate treatment of stroke patients can be possible, he said that the public should better there is a need to adopt lifestyle and promote awareness about this disease.

Dr. Maria Khan gave a lecture on 'Stroke in Women'. She said that disability and death due to stroke are more common in men than women in developing countries, but in the Middle East and North Africa the death rate due to stroke is higher among women is more finally, there was a panel discussion on the same topic in which Dr. Abdul Malik, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, Egyptian scholar Dr. Osama Yasin and Dr. Hasnain Hashim participated.
