3.4 million Americans could be diagnosed with skin cancer this year

According to estimates presented by the American Cancer Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, approximately 3.4 million Americans may be diagnosed with skin cancer in the year 2022.

The report published by the American Institute states that a large number of people suffering from the disease (3.3 million) will have basal cells while others (99 thousand 780) will be affected by melanoma.

What is melanoma?
Melanoma is a rare and dangerous type of skin cancer. Cancer experts estimate that melanoma may cause the death of 7,650 Americans this year.

It is estimated that about 20 percent of Americans will develop skin cancer at some point in their lives. Men are more affected by this disease than women, but women usually develop the disease at a younger age than men.

Skin cancer can happen to anyone regardless of skin color. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, but it is considered preventable. This disease is mostly caused by overexposure to ultraviolet rays, whether from the sun or other artificial sources.

Ultraviolet rays damage skin cells, causing abnormal cells that break down and spread. Treatment varies depending on the type and stage of skin cancer, but the usual treatment is to cut away the cancerous tissue or freeze the tissue to remove it. Exposure to all types of ultraviolet rays on human skin can lead to skin cancer.
